A night of indulgence….

For one night only during Tastes of the Outback, the stunning landscapes of the Flinders Ranges will form the backdrop to an outback cinema serving up some of the best in Australian and UK short films and regional food.

On Saturday 26 April, SHORTS Film Festival and The Prairie Hotel will again present the popular SHORTS Outback event at Parachilna. The evening promises to delight and entertain with sneak previews of this year’s upcoming national SHORTS Film Festival and highlights of the 2007 Rushes Soho Shorts Festival, the UK’s leading short film festival.

At the award-winning Prairie Hotel in the Flinders Ranges, scene of critically acclaimed films Rabbit-Proof Fence and The Tracker, enjoy a pre-screening drink or two while celebrity chef Andrew Fielke tantalises your tastebuds with a Tastes of the Outback inspired Banquet. Alternatively we have a variety of casual grazing platters to suit all budgets. Drinks available for purchase from the bar throughout the night.

A unique experience not to be missed, sit back and enjoy the warm hospitality of the locals and share a few laughs over fine food and flicks. Then kick on to music under the moonlight with Adelaide Dj Sidwho? and rest up in the Hotel, cottages or campsite for a recovery brunch the next morning.

So whichever way you’re driving into Parachilna, whether it’s from the Clare Valley, across the Iron Triangle, from the Riverland or Coober Pedy, Shorts Outback will be both the journey and the destination.

SHORTS FILM FESTIVAL DETAILS AND NEWS

The SHORTS Film Festival is open to all emerging filmmakers across the country and aims to champion and reward quality cinematic storytelling.

Since its inception in 2002, SHORTS, has grown quickly and now surpasses the St. Kilda Film Festival in Melbourne and is close on the heels of Tropfest, Australia’s prominent short film festival. SHORTS boasts the second largest prize pool in the country.

SHORTS also has a three-year partnership with The Prairie Hotel in Parachilna where SHORTS films are screened at an open air cinema. SHORTS Outback is held in conjunction with Taste the Outback on Saturday, 26th April 2008.

This year, it also sees a change of venue for the popular event. Previously held at the Garage Bar and Dining, SHORTS will now be held in the Queen’s Theatre.

The new venue allows for increased capacity but will still follow the social, ‘cabaret-style’ format of previous years.

The 2008 SHORTS Film Festival is in late November.

In late 2007, Adelaide’s only national short film festival struck a partnership with Rushes Shorts Film Festival giving Australian filmmakers the chance for their films to be shown to an international audience that includes major industry figures.

At the last SHORTS Film Festival in 2006 winning films from Rushes were screened in Adelaide but this year reciprocal rights have been given and xx films from SHORTS will be screened at more than fourteen separate venues across SOHO in central London.

The Rushes Short Film Festival will be held from 23rd July to 1st August 2008 and the films shown will reach a huge audience across the United Kingdom.

Rushes Soho Shorts Festival Director, Joe Bateman, says, “We’re incredibly excited to be able to bring such a highly regarded programme of work to our festival.”

“Showcasing filmmakers is what both Rushes Soho Shorts and SHORTS Film Festival continually strive toward and being able to share this work, share these ideas and show off the creativity and talent is invaluable, its underlines our reasons for holding these events.”
