Trainspotting

The Great Northern railway line connecting Adelaide and Alice Springs has gone, so Parachilna is no longer on the 'Ghan' route. Due to the track frequently flooding it was re-routed in 1980. The Railway Siding is closed too, but the train carrying coal from Leigh Creek to Port Augusta travels through twice a day, there and back.
With a call of TRAIN from The Front Bar often during lunch or dinner, guests desert the hotel to watch up to 3km of train pass by, over 160 carriages pulled by massive diesel electric motors.

It's all go in Para!

At Your Leisure

Just enjoy the atmosphere of the Prairie Hotel.

Some people never actually leave the hotel. Enjoy the sunset on the verandah, stay up late at the bar or around the fire outside sampling premium beers and fine SA wines with locals and other travellers. Relax in the guest lounge, play boules, dissolve into that great Australian novel, peruse the art or spend the day relaxing in the hotel swimming pool.
